Film and Fashion

Film seems to be linked to fashion more than ever these days. Screencaps of old films have been popping up all over the blogosphere, and influencing street style. Fashion houses are getting on board with the trend and producing their own films. We like it!

The Overall

Ralph Lauren Spring 2010

The Overall; fashion's much debated american staple. Stylish or not?
Recently, various designers have been offering their updated versions for the more fashion-forward woman. We think it's a great, easy look! Here are some George and Jane approved looks from the runway:

Alexander Wang Spring 2010, Rachel Comey Spring 2010

We just got Factory by Eric Hart's amazing charcoal overalls. All the classic notches you'd expect in an overall are there; the buckle, the front placket, the back pockets, but featuring a zipper down the front, pleated and draped pockets to keep it modern. Best of all it's super light! Come in and try it on!

Bill Cunningham: New York

“When fashion fans talk about street style these days, they’re likely to drop the names of Scott Schuman, Yvan Rodic aka The Facehunter or Garance DorĂ© . But most of them forget about a true pioneer in this field, 80-year-old New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham, who now gets the credit he deserves in new documentary Bill Cunningham New York.”
- The Independent (UK) (“ New documentary honors streetstyle visionary”)

More info on the Documentary here.

For the moment, it is only screening in the United States,
but hopefully we’ll get our chance to see this as well.
The trailer looks amazing; truly an indepth and personal look into the life
of one of New York Fashion Week’s beloved staples.
We can’t wait to see this!

Trend We Love: Brenton Stripes

What better way to welcome Spring (hurry up!) than with Brenton Stripes; an easy, classic, nautical staple. We can already see many people on the streets adopting this great spring trend:

Currently Listening To: Khyber Compilation

This week's musical content is the Khyber Compilation. Available in tape format or as a digital download, the album features...

"A wide array of upcoming talent in Halifax and local mainstays, from the '90s-ready indie rock of Play Guitar and crushing, noisy garage of Bloodhouse to the outsider pop of Duzheknew and the frenetic party rock of Cousins and so do Trash Heap, local heroes Long Long Long's R&B side-project." (Exclaim!)

The album was released in support of the Halifax arts society of the same name.

Vivian Maier

Have you heard about Vivian Maier? Terrific photographic skill aside, the story behind her work is also remarkable.

"Vivian's work was discovered at an auction here in Chicago, where she resided most of her life. Her discovered work includes over 100,000 — mostly medium format — negatives, thousands of prints, and countless undeveloped rolls of film."

Looks like there's a book of her photos in the works too. Neat!
